About Jack

Jack has built his professional experience being both a lawyer and as a business man himself. He has  been a key member of the executive management team operating insurance, leasing, real estate and technology companies, and the Epayment/ATM industry. Because of his dual background, Jack has the knowledge and experience to analyze matters from both a business and legal perspective.

Without a doubt in today’s business world, one of the most important tools essential to any company is a trusted relationship with a business attorney. That attorney must be knowledgeable, skilled and experienced. Jack can bring to the table that trust and relief on a multitude of business concerns. For example, Jack provides his clients pros and cons when analyzing business transactions so they have options to assess when weighing the risks-rewards parameters in deliberating whether to proceed or not, and if so, how to proceed. Further, he provides counsel to Boards and key management of clients to reduce risk associated with negotiating contracts, breach of contracts, exposure to lawsuits and litigation itself.

Jack has been a practicing lawyer for over 45 years. His career is steeped in satisfying a host of client needs, some seemingly mundane, others very critical. Each situation introduced different types of challenges. Addressing these challenges and bringing them to successful conclusions has vastly broadened Jack's knowledge and honed his skills. The resulting effect is a confident, experienced business law and transactional consultant.

Memberships, Appointments, and Awards

Jack received a BA Degree in Government from University of San Francisco & then received a JD Degree from Santa Clara University School of Law & a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. He was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1975 & has been a continuous & active member of the Oregon State Bar ever since.

 

Jack is also a member of the American Bar Association & Multnomah Bar Association. He has held various executive corporate office & board positions for several public and private companies, including Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary for American Guaranty Financial Corporation, American Guaranty Life Insurance Company, Sentinel Life Insurance Company, & Vero, Inc., and Vice President & Counsel for Card Capture Services, Inc., & E-Trade ATM, Inc.

 

Outside of corporate practice, Jack was in a solo law practice & then with a law firm for thirteen years, before joining the State of Oregon Attorney General’s office as Senior Assistant Attorney General, assigned to departments of Treasury and Lottery. Since 2008, Jack has practiced law as a sole practitioner in the JMFord Law Office & has been a member of the ATM International Association & serve on the ATMIA Consultants Group, ATMIA Cash & Payments Council, ATMIA ATM & Digital Transaction Innovation Forum, ATMIA Independent ATM Deployer Committee, Co-Chair the ATMA Government Relations Committee, & ATMIA Next Generation ATMs & Governance Subcommittee. He received ATMIA’s 2015 & 2018 Outstanding Service Award & Jack is an ATMIA Honorary ATM Industry Champion.

 

Jack is also a member of the National ATM Council since its formation nine years ago, as well as a member of the ATM Security Association formed in 2020.
